The legend, who was born in Baku on October 5, 1935, played 210 games and scored 17 goals for Neftchi in 1956-1965. Ahmad Alasgarov tried his hand at coaching after finishing his football career early due to injury.
From 1966 to 2006 he was the head coach of Neftchi (1966-1970, 1980-1982, 1999-2000), Pamir of Tajikistan (Dushanbe, 1972), Chernomorets of Ukraine (Odessa, 1973-1977). He coached Nakhchivan's Araz (1979), Moldova's Nistru (Chisinau, 1988-1989) and Sheriff (Tiraspol, 1997-1998).
He is an honored coach of Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Moldova and Tajikistan. He won bronze medals at the USSR Championship in 1966 for Neftchi and in 1974 for Ukrainian Chernomorets. In 1992-1993 and 1998-2000 he coached the Azerbaijani national team. In 1999, Neftchi won the Azerbaijan Cup under his leadership.
The first head coach of our national team, the specialist who won the only medal for "Neftchi" in the USSR championships in his debut year, went down in history as a unique person who was awarded the title of honored coach of 4 countries. Ahmad Alasgarov died on May 19, 2015.
