Gurban Gurbanov was born on April 13, 1972 in Zagatala.

In 1996-1998, 2001-2005 he played 96 games for Neftchi and scored 69 goals. The striker, who won the Azerbaijani championship (1997, 2004, 2005) and the national cup (2004) with Neftchi, was the best scorer of the Azerbaijani championship in 1997. From 1992 to 2005, he scored 14 goals in 65 games for the Azerbaijani national team.

Gurban Gurbanov, who was the head coach of Neftchi in the 2006/2007 season, worked as the club's sports director in 2007-2008.
