The team came together again after a short break. The reason was that he represented our country in the UEFA Cup as a champion . At that time, the European football organization allowed the champion of our country only to the UEFA Cup. The coaching staff understands this responsibility and was diligently preparing for the next season.  

Unfortunately, it was not possible to keep the experienced team on the eve of the tournament. Some players have expressed a desire to leave the team. Vyacheslav Lychkin and Vladimir Tuayev turned to Russia. Mais Azimov, Mehman Yunusov, Vugar Ismayilov, Rauf Salamov and Rauf Mehdiyev transferred to other clubs. Yunis Huseynov was among those who wanted to leave Neftchi . However, the experienced captain eventually changed his mind and stayed on the team. Despite the losses, the team was able to attract experienced players. Azad Mutallimov, Jeyhun Tanriverdiyev, Adahim Niftaliyev, Mahmud, Musa and Gurban Gurbanov joined the team. Elighan Hasanov, the only goalkeeper left in Neftchi, was replaced by Khalig Gafarov . There was no change in the coaching staff. Again, the team was led by the head coach of the national team Kazbek Tuayev . However, in official documents, this task was performed by Asif Aliyev .                    

Despite all the staff changes, Neftchi was diligently preparing for the European tournament. Even other players were hired on a lease basis. "Neftchi" seemed to have a mini-national effect. Although there were strong players in the squad, it was felt that they had little experience playing together. This was evident in the pre-season friendly matches with various teams of the republic.  

AFFA has changed the domestic championship again. The championship was held in two rounds in a tested circular system. In addition, another decision was made that has no analogues in the world of football. AFFA did not use only the points of the main teams to determine the national champion . In order to stimulate the development of children's football and force clubs to do so , the championship of junior teams in two age groups was held in parallel . Only the points collected in both age groups would be divided into two parts and added to the index of the main team. According to this indicator, the team with the most points would be considered the champion.    

"Neftchi" started the championship very ambitiously. The flagship has won nine of its first nine games, six of which have been big scores. Gurban Gurbanov and Samir Alakbarov formed a strong attacking tandem. This tandem scored more than half of the team's goals. The line of defense, led by Arif Asadov , was also an impassable barrier.  

"Neftchi" suffered its first loss only in the games with Western representatives. Nevertheless, he was able to finish the first round at the top of the tournament table. At the end of the year, team member Vidadi Rzayev was named the best football player in Azerbaijan. However, as a result of AFFA's "efforts", black clouds gathered over Neftchi's head again. Kazbek Tuayev resigned as the head coach of the national team. This was not unequivocally welcomed by AFFA, and Fuad Musayev deprived Tuayev of his coaching license.     

During the break, the team underwent staff changes again. Players such as Adahim Niftaliyev and Azad Mutallimov left the team. Instead, Ramil Habibov, who played with Elnur Gambarov and U-18, was included in the squad. In addition, Musa Gurbanov returned to the team and strengthened the offensive line. At the beginning of the championship, Musa played in "black and white" in two games. However, as Neftchi and Kur-Nur did not agree on the transfer, Musa had to return to Mingachevir.       

"Neftchi" continued its successful performance after the break. From the first rounds to the last round, the team did not lose the first place in the table. After the first round, it became clear that four teams - "Neftchi", "Karabakh", "Khazri" and "Turan" are the main contenders for gold medals. Second d d Vrede "Neftchi" teams, only the "Karabakh" has been lost to the other two teams tore the points. Despite the small number of players in the squad, the team was able to maintain a successful pace until the end. Despite the fact that the weight of the championship fell on the shoulders of twelve members of the main team, they did not stumble and finished first in the competition of the main teams. Following the champion until the end, "Karabakh" finished the season in the second place. Gurban Gurbanov became the best player of the 6th championship, disappointing the opponent's goalkeepers 34 times . The team played well on all lines. The offensive line was more productive. "Neftchi" scored 98 goals . This was the team's highest score after 104 goals in the first championship.
