Nazim Suleymanov was born on February 17, 1965 in the city of Sumgayit.

Nazim, who started learning the secrets of football at Neftchi's academy in Sumgayit at the age of 8-9, made his debut for Neftchi ISM at the age of 17. During 1983-1990, he played 190 games for Neftchi and scored 32 goals. During 1992-1998, he scored 5 goals in 24 games for the Azerbaijani national team.

Suleymanov also worked as the head coach of Neftchi (2013) and the coach of the Azerbaijani national team (2012-2013).
