The successful performance of our team in the 1960s encouraged many young people to come to football. Ali Rahmanov, who later became the leader of Neftchi and captain for 6 years, also started playing the most popular sport in 1965. The 18-year-old Alakbar (probably very few people know his real name) hired a midfielder to gain experience. This is how Rahmanov grew up. He later recalled: “I was happy to be raised by good coaches. I learned a lot from such players as Yashar Babayev, Kazbek Tuayev, Valeri Hajiyev, Anatoly Banishevsky, Vladimir Brukhti.

The coaches recruited Rahmanov to the main staff of our team in 1968. News about the talent of Rahmanov, who soon became one of the leading players of "Neftchi", spread beyond the Republic. Although Shakhtar Donetsk wanted to see the midfielder in their squad, the player could not leave Baku. Because he grew up in this city and established himself here.

The departure of the midfielder from football for a year and a half coincided with the departure of our team. Ali Rahmanov is sometimes compared to Eduard Streltsov, one of the brightest figures in Soviet football, for his similar fate. He also went behind bars during the best times of his career as a forward of the Moscow "Torpedo". Perhaps the current generation will be surprised to hear why Rahmanov was arrested. Yes, in those days, keeping currency was considered a serious crime. The football player of our team suffered for 7 months in the KGB (State Security Committee) and 14 months in a maximum security prison. But this did not break Ali. After going behind bars, he returned to the ranks of "Neftchi" and found the strength to please our fans with his brilliant game. Rahmanov, who was a leader in life with determination and fighting spirit, did not lose his temper. Surprising as it may have been for that period, when Ali came out from behind bars and returned to our team, he was given the captaincy. However, during the Soviet era, the Central Committee and the KGB took such issues seriously. Apparently, the leaders of those organizations also realized that Ali was not guilty. Legendary Konstantin Beskov wanted to involve the midfielder in the USSR Olympic team before he was imprisoned. By the time a telegram arrived from Moscow to our team, Rahmanov was already suffering in the basements of the KGB.

He played a big role in the promotion of "Neftchi" to the group of the Strong. In general, an excellent team was formed in the staff at that time. Rahmanov was a real leader not only in character, but also in the quality of the game. He performed all standard situations, corner kicks and free kicks. Rahmanov, who held the captain's armband for 3 years after qualifying for the Neftchi Strong Group, ended his football career in the early 1980s.

Later, Rahmanov, who tried his hand at coaching, became the first club of Nakhchivan "Araz". He promoted Gazakh's Goyazen to the quarterfinals of the USSR Cup. Rahmanov also coached Yevlakh's Avtomobilchi and Baku's Torpedo during the Soviet era. The specialist, who returned to his native Neftchi after many years, also worked as Ahmad Alasgarov's assistant for some time. During the years of independence, he returned to Nakhchivan and led the troubled Araz. Rahmanov also coached the Olympic team for some time.

Elchin, the son of the late football player, also finished his career at Neftchi. Elchin, who wore a "black and white" uniform for many years, also performed in the center of the square like his father. He also replaced his father in the center of the square for several years.
