Not every player has the opportunity to play in the same team for 15 years in a row. And to protect the honor of a club like "Neftchi" ... This was the fate of Yunis Huseynov. The midfielder, who spent most of his football career at Neftchi, is known not only in Azerbaijan, but also in the former USSR. His strength was concentrated in his left leg, which helped him move more on the field, rather than working with the ball. Eunice played as a left-wing midfielder in the early years due to his left-handedness, but later gradually moved to the center of the field, playing most of his career as a central midfielder.
Huseynov, who left Azerbaijan at a young age to vote, was involved in the USSR Olympic team. However, he was excluded from the 1988 Olympics in Seoul at the last minute. The head of the national team did not allow two players from Neftchi to go to Seoul, and in the end, only one of the Olympians, Igor Ponomaryov, experienced the joy of the championship.
At that time, the option of transfer to Moscow "Lokomotiv" was seriously discussed, but Yunis returned to Baku because he missed training with this team. In any case, he achieved what he could not achieve in the USSR during the independence of "Neftchi". The midfielder, who scored 101 goals in 341 games, won the Azerbaijani championship (1992, 1996, 1997), cup (1995, 1996), Super Cup (1993, 1995) in the "black and white" form, was named the best football player of Azerbaijan (1994, 1998).
Huseynov could have lived the life of a legionnaire, but although he went to Iran in 1992, he could not stay there and soon returned to Neftchi. Eunice, one of the leaders of the flagship, wore the captain's armband for a long time. The player, who scored the first goal of "Neftchi" in the independent Azerbaijani championships and made his name in the history of the team, set a record by not leaving the field without a goal in 12 consecutive games. He was expected to leave Neftchi in 1997, but Yunis Huseynov was one of the few experienced players left in the squad that was weakened by the rejuvenation policy after the split. However, a year later he returned to Ganja, where he took his first steps in football, and won his last championship (1998/99) in his hometown "Kapaz". In 1984, at the age of 19, Yunis Huseynov started playing as a professional footballer when he came to Neftchi and finished his career in Ganja, where he was born and grew up.
