May 28 is the day when the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, the first democratic state in the East, was established. On May 28, 1918, Azerbaijan National Council declared the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic with the "Declaration of Independence". According to this historical document, the independent state of Azerbaijan was declared a republic.

Republic Day celebrated as a public holiday since 1990, was changed to Independence Day on October 15, 2021. Independence Day, which is one of the dear holidays of our people, is celebrated with great solemnity in our country.
