Samir Abasov was born on February 1, 1978 in Sumgayit.

He started playing football as a child. The first professional club was Sumgayit "Khazar" (1994-1995). Later, "Vilash" (1996-1997), "Neftgaz" (1998-1999), "Shafa" (1999-2001), "Shahdag" (2002), "Neftchi" (2003-2004), "Karabakh" (2004) -He played for "2005", 2006-2007, 2010-2011), "Karvan" (2005-2006), "Inter" (2007-2010), "Sumgayit" (2011-2014) clubs. Abasov, who played as a center, winger defender and support midfielder, was a three-time champion of Azerbaijan and twice won the national cup. In 2014, he finished his football career and started playing. He worked as a head coach in "Sumgayit" and "Zira". From November 2020 to the end of May 2022, he was the head coach of “Neftchi”.
